World Wide Technology Raceway
Madison, ILBuilt in 1967 as a drag racing facility, motorsports fans in Illinois finally had a place to go watch racing. After the track was taken over in 1994, the road course layout and drag racing layout where demolished, to build the current oval layout.
When the oval opened in 1998, the track featured 2 very distinct corners. Turns 1 and 2 are banked steeper and match the characteristics of New Hampshire Motor Speedway, while turns 3 and 4 are less highly banked and match Phoenix Raceway. Due to this design of the corners, the track is similar in shape to Darlington Raceway in South Carolina.
Starting in 1998, the NASCAR Camping World Truck series ran at Gateway. The series would race at the track up until 2010, when ownership switched. However, the track would switch ownership again in 2012 and the trucks made their return in 2014. Since then, the track has been on the schedule and kicks off the Truck series playoffs.
