Richmond, VA

Built in 1946 as a half mile dirt track, Richmond Raceway has served as the home for racing in the central Virginia area. Hosting what was known as the “Strawberry Hill Races”, which features both horses and car races, the track has a rich history of racing. In 1953, the track was officially added to the NASCAR Cup series schedule, with Lee Petty taking the first win at the track.
In 1968, the dirt surface was removed and paved over, and again in 1988 the track was reconfigured to the current 3/4 mile oval layout. Richmond is unique in that it is the only track with a 3/4 mile layout, and NASCAR has continued to make two trips to the track since 1958. In 2018, Richmond underwent their biggest changes, with a multimillion dollar infield redevelopment project. This project added an all new fan experience in the garage area, along with a fanzone in the infield, and a new victory lane. This new garage allows fans to get up close and watch teams work on the cars, and get closer than ever to their favorite drivers. Additionally, the new victory lane puts fans right next to the winning driver to join in the celebrations.
