Built in 1909, the world-famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway has been hosting auto racing for well over 100 years. Most notably hosting the Indianapolis 500 and the former host of the United States Grand Prix, Indianapolis has a rich history of racing. NASCAR made its first trip to the speedway in 1994, and Indiana native Jeff Gordon took the inaugural NASCAR win.
NASCAR has had a significant impact on the racing history at Indianapolis, and for the 2018 and 2019 seasons was the last race before the NASCAR playoffs. Beginning in 2020 for the Xfinity Series and 2021 for the Cup Series, NASCAR utilized the 2.4-mile road course before switching back to the oval in 2024. Kyle Larson won the Brickyard 400 in the 30th-anniversary celebration.
